HAIAN BETA makes maiden Chennai call

M/V HAIAN BETA made its maiden call at Chennai Port on 3 October 2026, marking the launch of Hai An’s direct CVI service between Vietnam and India.

The vessel is the first ship deployed on the new service by Hai An Container Transport Company Limited (HACT), a subsidiary of Hai An Transport and Stevedoring Joint Stock Company (HATS).

A welcome ceremony for the HAIAN BETA Chennai call took place at Chennai Container Terminal, which is operated by DP World.

Representatives attending the event included Sachin S. Kurve, Chairperson of Chennai Port Authority, and Vu Thanh Hai, Chairman of HACT and HATS. Representatives from DP World Chennai and Samsara Shipping, Hai An’s general agent in India, also participated.

CVI service links four Asian ports

The CVI service operates monthly with the following rotation:

Nansha – Hai Phong – Port Klang West – Chennai.

The new service establishes an additional direct container shipping connection between Vietnam and India. It also links both markets with major trading hubs in southern China and Malaysia.

Hai An said the CVI service is designed to support growing shipping requirements between Vietnam and India.

Bilateral trade between the two countries reached US$13.4 billion during the first eight months of 2026, representing a year-on-year increase of 25%.

Chennai Port Authority noted that the continued expansion of trade between India and Vietnam is creating further opportunities for container shipping connections between the two markets.

The HAIAN BETA Chennai call represents another step in Hai An’s expansion into international container shipping services.
