Global Ship Lease has exercised options for two additional mid-sized containership newbuildings, expanding its orderbook to 17 vessels.
The two wide-beam ships will feature ultra-high reefer capacity and latest-generation specifications. Global Ship Lease said the flexible design will support existing and anticipated future market requirements.
The vessels carry a combined contract price of approximately US$163 million. Their delivery is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2029, subject to certain conditions being met.
Global Ship Lease is discussing potential employment agreements with prospective charterers ahead of delivery.
Global Ship Lease targets flexible mid-sized vessels
“We are strong believers in the value proposition of high-specification, highly flexible, mid-sized containerships and expect them to play a crucial role in our industry for many years to come,” said George Youroukos, Executive Chairman of Global Ship Lease.
Youroukos added that the company secured the additional vessels under terms agreed earlier in 2026. He noted that comparable ships with 2029 delivery slots are no longer available at the same prices.
