The collective agreement negotiations between terminals and unions in Germany have been ongoing for several weeks, resulting in strike action from union members at the ports of Bremerhaven and Hamburg.
Before the next round of negotiations get under way on 11 and 12 July, Berlin-based trade union Ver.di has called for warning strikes across terminals.
The Port of Hamburg (besides Frucht Terminal) will be subject to a 48-hour strike from 07:00 on 9 July to 07:00 on 11 July, while Bremerhaven workers will strike for 24 hours from 14 on 9 July to 14:00 on 10 July.
The trade union aims to add pressure on employers before the fourth round of negotiations between ver.di and the Central Association of German Seaport Companies (ZDS) that will continue on 11 July in Bremen.
“In the third round of negotiations, we were still far apart,” said ver.di negotiator Maren Ulbrich. “The offer presented by the employers is not acceptable to us as it stands. Employers need to make more movement, especially regarding the proposed wage increases.
