GCT Deltaport completes rail yard expansion project

Global Container Terminals (GCT) Canada has announced that its US$300 millionr ail expansion project has been finalised with the final two tracks of the GCT Deltaport Intermodal Rail Yard Expansion Project.

The GCT Deltaport Intermodal Rail Yard Expansion Project is the second, US$300 million privately-funded stage of the multi-phased expansion Deltaport Terminal Road and Rail Improvement Project (DTRRIP), a collaboration with the Port Authority and the Province of British Columbia.

The densification approach to this project demonstrates GCT’s commitment to increasing capacity within its existing footprint and minimising operational and environmental impacts on the surrounding community, according to a statement.

This project will also ensure BC remains competitive to meet projected carrier rail demand for the Canadian and US markets, without any impact on local road traffic, s

Rail handling capacity at GCT Deltaport has increased by more than 50% due to the project, with the total terminal capacity reaches now 2.4 million TEU annually.
