Explainer: Where the connectivity went

The Middle East shocks did not erase liner connectivity but moved it to ports outside the danger zones, and the new map is unlikely to fold back.

New data from Sea-Intelligence, based on UNCTAD’s port connectivity index, shows what the Middle East disruptions have done to the liner network.

Ports inside the affected regions have lost services and ports on their edges have gained them. Duqm in Oman and Khor Fakkan in the UAE lead with connectivity gains of 213% and 188% against their pre-crisis baselines.
