DP World launches logistics distribution centre at Sokhna

DP World has inaugurated Egypt's first fully integrated Logistics Distribution Centre at Sokhna Logistics Park.

DP World has inaugurated Egypt’s first fully integrated Logistics Distribution Centre at Sokhna Logistics Park, marking a significant development in the country’s logistics sector and reinforcing the Suez Canal Economic Zone’s role as a regional trade gateway.

The launch ceremony was attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Dr Mostafa Madbouly and senior government officials, and coincided with the first visit to Egypt by DP World Chairman Essa Kazim following his assumption of the chairmanship.

Three inaugural customer agreements were signed at the ceremony.

The LDC, located adjacent to Sokhna Port within the Suez Canal Economic Zone, provides international companies with an end-to-end supply chain solution from a single hub encompassing international freight forwarding, port services, warehousing, inventory management, order fulfilment, customs facilitation, transportation coordination and value-added services including assembly, packaging, repackaging, labelling and product customisation.

The model allows companies to retain inventory ownership until final distribution while serving local, regional and international markets efficiently from one location.

The three inaugural customers reflect the facility’s broad commercial appeal.

A leading Kenya-based tea exporter handling approximately 1,000 TEUs annually into Egypt will use the LDC as a regional inventory hub for distribution across Africa, the Middle East and Europe.

One of the world’s leading consumer goods distributors will utilise dedicated temperature-controlled facilities within Sokhna Logistics Park to support operations across eight markets spanning Saudi Arabia, the Levant and the Horn of Africa.

A German multinational specialising in fibre-optic cables and digital infrastructure will leverage the centre to strengthen distribution and re-export capabilities across Egypt, North Africa and the GCC.

Essa Kazim described the launch as a new chapter in DP World’s long-standing partnership with Egypt, reaffirming the company’s confidence in the country’s potential as a global hub for trade, industry and logistics.

Mohammad Shihab, Executive Vice President for Egypt and Levant at DP World, highlighted the facility’s role in enabling businesses to position inventory closer to customers and serve multiple markets through a single regional hub, reinforcing Egypt’s strategic position connecting Asia, Africa and Europe.

DP World has invested more than US$ 1.4 billion in integrated logistics infrastructure across Egypt, encompassing the expansion and modernisation of Sokhna Port, the development of Sokhna Logistics Park and a new cold chain facility currently under development.
