Boluda Shipping expands Tenerife terminal with new STS and hybrid RTG cranes

Boluda Shipping has strengthened the operational capacity of its terminal in Tenerife with the addition of STS cranes.

Boluda Shipping has strengthened the operational capacity of its terminal in Tenerife with the addition of two Super Post-Panamax ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and four hybrid rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes.

The investment forms part of the company’s more than €40 million modernization plan for Boluda Maritime Terminals Tenerife. The new equipment enables the terminal to handle Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs) while increasing storage capacity, operational efficiency and cargo handling performance.

The two STS cranes, unveiled at the Bufadero quay in the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, feature an outreach of up to 22 containers across, a lifting height of 60 metres and a twin-lift capacity of up to 71 tonnes. They also incorporate energy regeneration technology to reduce the environmental impact of terminal operations.

The investment is complemented by four next-generation hybrid RTG cranes, which improve container stacking capacity, accelerate loading and unloading operations, and enhance cargo flow through the terminal.

Boluda Shipping said the infrastructure upgrade strengthens Tenerife’s position as a strategic transshipment hub, particularly as major shipping lines continue to adjust Europe-bound services via the Cape of Good Hope.
