Acheon Akti is preparing to expand the use of EVI Safety Technology’s AI-enabled safety system to additional vessels following a pilot aboard one ship.
The shipping company reported a significant reduction in bridge near misses during the pilot. It also recorded improvements across other monitored areas.
According to EVI, Acheon Akti reported an almost 20-fold reduction in near misses on the bridge. Meanwhile, other supervised areas showed at least a threefold improvement.
Monitoring data also showed a 69% decrease in the total duration of recorded deviations. The figure fell from 8,839 minutes to 2,730 minutes during the monitored period.
The results relate specifically to the pilot vessel and its monitored operations.
Acheon Akti eyes wider deployment
Plans to introduce the technology on additional vessels were also highlighted by Acheon Akti CEO Charalambos Manoli in the company’s corporate magazine, Argonaftis.
The company referred to the testing of EVI’s technology aboard one vessel and its planned introduction to other fleet vessels alongside its KARCO safety training programme.
EVI’s system uses existing onboard cameras to identify potential safety risks and alert crew members, allowing them to assess situations and respond.
Video is processed locally aboard the vessel, allowing the system to operate when connectivity is limited. The technology also supports vessel-to-shore collaboration and incident review.
“Having worked at sea myself, I know that safety technology has to earn its place in the crew’s daily work. It should help people recognise a developing risk and act while there is still time to prevent an incident,” said Vladimir Ponomarev, CEO of EVI Safety Technology.
“The results reported by Acheon Akti are encouraging. We value the crew’s involvement and the company’s commitment to turning a pilot into lasting operational improvement.”
