DP World completes £13 million training hub at London Gateway

DP World and Thames Freeport have completed a new £13 million training and innovation centre at London Gateway in the United Kingdom.

The facility, known as The Hive, is located within London Gateway Logistics Park. It will support skills development in the maritime and logistics sectors, with plans to train around 1,125 people each year.

The project was jointly funded by DP World and Thames Freeport. It aims to help businesses find skilled workers as London Gateway continues to expand.

New training facilities for port and logistics workers

The Hive includes a training centre equipped with crane operation simulators, virtual reality (VR) technology and facilities for working-at-height training.

It will offer more than 100 days of industrial and employment training programmes each year. These programmes will help people develop skills for jobs in ports, logistics and related industries.

The three-storey building also includes meeting rooms, an events area and a 100-seat auditorium. Other facilities include a gym and outdoor sports areas for employees working at the port and logistics park.

“As the London Gateway Logistics Hub continues to grow, we want to ensure the infrastructure around it grows too,” said Alan Holland, Chief Executive Officer of DP World London Gateway Logistics Park.

According to DP World, London Gateway supports more than 10,000 jobs through direct employment and its wider economic activities.

Supporting the growth of London Gateway

Construction of The Hive began in October 2025. The building has achieved BREEAM Outstanding certification and an EPC A+ energy rating.

Training providers and other partners are expected to begin operating from the facility in November 2026.

SEATS, which was appointed as the project’s skills partner earlier this year, will work with DP World and local employers to develop training programmes.

The new centre forms part of wider efforts to support the growth of London Gateway and strengthen the local workforce.
