DHL Supply Chain has agreed to acquire Colombian logistics and transport operator Open Market, expanding its warehousing, transport and temperature-controlled capabilities in the country.

The acquisition supports DHL Group’s Strategy 2030 and strengthens its position in Colombia and the wider Latin American market.

The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions. DHL did not disclose its financial terms.

Acquisition adds 21 warehouses

Open Market will add 21 warehouses covering a combined area of 120,000 m² to DHL Supply Chain’s Colombian network.

The company also operates 13 cross-docking platforms and a transport network supported by an owned vehicle fleet.

Around 4,100 Open Market employees will join DHL Supply Chain following completion of the transaction.

The acquisition will expand DHL’s capabilities in:

  • Transportation
  • Packaging
  • Temperature-controlled logistics
  • Life sciences and healthcare
  • Consumer logistics
  • Engineering and manufacturing

“This step reflects our strategic focus on strengthening our capabilities in regions and sectors that show sustained, long-term growth. Colombia’s strong economic momentum and rising demand for integrated logistics and transport services make it a key growth market for DHL Group,” said Hendrik Venter, CEO of DHL Supply Chain.

Venter added that Open Market’s expertise in pharmaceutical, medical product and personal care supply chains would strengthen DHL Health Logistics.

DHL expands Colombian logistics network

The transaction follows DHL’s recent expansion of its Constellation Distribution Center in Cota, near Bogotá. The company said the facility will support the management of specialised supply chains.

“Open Market’s experience strongly complements our existing offering in Latin America. Their transport network with cross-docks and temperature-controlled warehouses enhances the quality and reliability of the services we provide across Colombia and the wider region,” said Agustín Croche, CEO Latin America of DHL Supply Chain.

Open Market said the sale would allow its current owner to focus its investments and operations on Brazil.

“We are proud to leave that legacy in the hands of DHL, a company with extensive experience in the global logistics industry and undoubtedly the perfect company for Open Market’s next chapter,” said Anibal Wadih, Chairman of the Board of Open Market.
