CORE: future of logistics and customs

The CORE project, an ambitious European research programme focusing on faster, more reliable, and more efficient trade lanes, has ended this year. But the results continue improving supply chains for businesses, industry, and government.

The special edition of the Dutch Customs digital magazine Customs NL inSight looks how the companies in the Netherlands participating in the project contributed to these results. Royal Flora Holland, Seacon Logistics, and IBM/Maersk have been working on the development of a data pipeline – a solid system for the safe collection, (re-)use, and exchange of all kinds of relevant digital information by the various links within logistic chains.

The data pipeline offers an increasing insight into the business processes and helps supply chain partners to improve them. The data circulating within such a shielded channel could be shared with competent supervisory authorities. This helps these agencies to have a clearer insight into the consignments – the nature, origin, and destination of the goods and allows them to fine-tune their risk analysis and to make smarter inspection selections.

In its next editions, Customs NL inSight will share the explanations from Royal Flora Holland, Seacon Logistics, IBM/Maersk, and Dutch Customs about the CORE results and next steps to be taken.
