CMA CGM is strengthening its Vietnam-US network with the launch of the new Mekong Transpacific Express (MTE) service.
The carrier will transform its existing Java Sea Express (JAX) into the new weekly transpacific loop focused on direct Vietnam-US West Coast connectivity.
MTE will provide direct calls from Haiphong and Vung Tau to the US West Coast through a CMA CGM-operated service.
The company said the new network improves transit times, schedule reliability and inland connectivity through Los Angeles.
For Southern Vietnam cargo, CMA CGM will continue using barge connections between Ho Chi Minh City and the Gemalink Container Terminal.
The carrier noted that the ongoing Phase 2 expansion at Gemalink will increase terminal capacity from 1.7 million TEUs to 3 million TEUs by 2027.
The service will also support Cambodian cargo through GIL-operated barge links connecting Phnom Penh with Cai Mep.
In the United States, MTE will call at Fenix Marine Services, allowing direct access to on-dock rail services and CMA CGM’s SEAPRIORITY logistics solutions.
The maiden voyage will begin on 28 May with the vessel APL DANUBE.
The port rotation will be:
Haiphong – Vung Tau – Shanghai – Los Angeles – Oakland – Kaohsiung.
CMA CGM said customers previously using JAX from Singapore, Port Klang and Laem Chabang will transition to alternative services within the company’s regional network.
“The launch of the Mekong Transpacific Express is more than a service enhancement,” said Amelie Humphreys, Managing Director of CMA CGM Vietnam.
“It is a clear signal of our long-term commitment to Vietnam.”
CMA CGM has operated in Vietnam since 1989 and currently runs 29 weekly services across seven Vietnamese ports.
