For the third year in a row, South Carolina Ports (SC Ports), the International Longshoremen’s Association, Coalition 18, and the Maritime Association of South Carolina are joining forces to fulfill holiday wish lists for foster children across South Carolina.
This year’s Maritime Toy Drive calls on local businesses, partners, and Charleston residents to help fill a 40-foot ONE shipping container with toys by 13 December. The South Carolina Department of Social Services will distribute donations to bring holiday cheer to foster children throughout the state.
“SC Ports is dedicated year-round to connecting with local communities and giving back to our citizens. South Carolina’s maritime community is teaming up again to make the holidays brighter for foster children in our state. We encourage people and businesses to join us in supporting such a wonderful cause,” stated Barbara Melvin, president and CEO of SC Ports.
Charleston’s maritime community has already collected thousands of toys for foster children through this annual drive, and they hope to build on that success again this holiday season.
“The International Longshoremen’s Association Local 1422, Local 1422-A and Local 1771 believe in service and giving back to our community. We hope others in the Lowcountry will join our maritime community and support South Carolina children this holiday season,” commented Yvette Flowers, Secretary-Treasurer of ILA Local 1422.
