British Ports Association warns about supply chain challenges

The British Ports Association (BPA), a national membership body for ports, has pointed out that the United Kingdom's economy has been experiencing supply chain issues and calls for urgent action.

The lack haulage capacity has contributed to inefficiencies across the supply chain, according to Richard Ballantye, BPA Chief Executive, who noted that the association is seeing increased wait times at ports, while the shortages push up costs and put suppliers under more pressure.

"As many have warned, Covid and Brexit have obviously contributed to haulier shortages and we are very supportive of the haulage industry’s calls for a review of the post Brexit immigration rules for European based HGV drivers," said Richard Ballantyne, who went on to highlight, "action is needed now, particularly ahead of the introduction of new enforcement controls for imports in January which could add more pressures on the supply chain.”
