Baltic Container Terminal receives quay cranes

Two new quay cranes manufactured by ZMPC have arrived at Baltic Container Terminal in Gdynia as part of a joint investment programme.

Two new quay cranes manufactured by ZMPC have arrived at Baltic Container Terminal in Gdynia as part of a joint investment programme between BCT and the Port of Gdynia Authority aimed at modernising the port and reinforcing its position as a key logistics hub in the Baltic Sea region.

Full commissioning is scheduled for June 2026.

The cranes feature a lifting height of 55 metres and a reach spanning 25 container rows across a vessel’s deck, with a total height of 140 metres when the boom is raised.

Lifting capacity is specified at 65 tonnes under a container gripper and 75 tonnes under a hook, enabling BCT to handle all vessel sizes currently operating in the Baltic Sea.

The investment is expected to increase terminal capacity, improve the efficiency of transshipment processes, reduce cargo handling times and enhance the predictability of operations for customers across the Baltic market.

The purchase was supported by funds from Poland’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan under a project focused on equipping the BCT intermodal terminal with modern transshipment equipment, illustrating the value of combining public infrastructure investment with private terminal development.

Piotr Gorzeński, President of the Gdynia Seaport Authority, described the crane delivery as the completion of a key stage in a long-running port modernisation process encompassing channel dredging, quay upgrades and terminal development, positioning Gdynia to serve increasingly demanding logistics requirements.

Wojciech Szymulewicz, BCT CEO, framed the investment as one of the most significant development milestones for the terminal in recent years, consistent with BCT’s commitment to continuously upgrading its equipment and infrastructure to meet growing market expectations.
