Yang Ming names new 11,000 TEU vessel

Yang Ming will add another new 11,000 TEU container ship to its fleet, named 'YM Throne'.

The vessel is chartered by Shoei Kisen Kaisha and has been built by Imabari Shipbuilding.

Its naming ceremony was held at Imabari Hiroshima Shipyard.

Hsieh-Lung Yeh, director general of the Bureau of the Maritime and Port Bureau, MOTC, was invited to officially name the vessel and Shu-Chu Li, his wife, was honored to perform the ceremonial cord-cutting.

Yang Ming has ordered a total of fourteen newbuildings with a capacity of 11,000 TEU through long-term charter agreements with shipowners. YM Throne is the thirteenth in the series and will be delivered on 31 August.

This vessel type has a nominal capacity of 11,860 TEU and is equipped with 1,000 plugs for reefer containers. With a length of 333.9 meters, a width of 48.4 meters, a draft of 16 meters, these vessels are designed to cruise at a speed up to 23 knots.

In addition, the ships incorporate various environmental features, such as scrubbers, water ballast treatment plant and Alternative Marine Power system.

Optimising the shape of the ship's hull will further increase energy savings, reduce overall emissions, and increase fleet diversity.

YM Throne will be deployed on Yang Ming's Trans-Pacific PN3 service after delivery.

The port rotation for the first voyage of YM Throne in PN3 is Hong Kong – Yantian (China) – Shanghai (China) – Pusan (South Korea) – Vancouver (Canada) - Tokyo (Japan)- Kobe (Japan) - Pusan - Kaohsiung (Taiwan) - Hong Kong.
