Andrea Ruffini Head of Marketing & Sales of WASS Submarine Systems signs Mou with Magellan

Fincantieri’s subsidiary WASS Submarine Systems has signed a memorandum of understanding with Magellan Aerospace to explore industrial cooperation aimed at strengthening Canada’s underwater defense capabilities.

The agreement was signed during CANSEC 2026 in Ottawa.

The partnership focuses on supporting Canada’s defense sovereignty and expanding domestic industrial participation in underwater defense programs.

The companies will explore opportunities in heavyweight torpedoes and torpedo countermeasure systems.

The cooperation could cover component production, energetic sections, subassemblies, final assembly and factory testing.

The agreement also includes maintenance and in-service support activities.

WASS Submarine Systems brings more than 150 years of experience in underwater defense technologies.

The company specializes in the design and development of advanced underwater systems.

The companies said the agreement creates a framework for long-term industrial cooperation.

The partnership combines WASS’ expertise in underwater systems with Magellan’s established industrial footprint in Canada.

The companies aim to support local industrial participation and strengthen in-country capabilities across the full lifecycle of underwater defense systems.

The agreement also seeks to create sustainable industrial capacity while improving long-term support capabilities for future underwater defense programs.

The companies said the collaboration represents another step toward building stronger sovereign defense capabilities within Canada.
