South Korea’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Lee Wonjae, met with Muhammetsytdyk Ojarov, head of Ojar Aziya, a local partner of South Korea’s S&T Corporation, to discuss ongoing construction projects and prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation.
The meeting, reported by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Turkmenistan, focused on the implementation of road and housing construction projects and opportunities to strengthen business ties between South Korean companies and their Turkmen partners in the construction sector.
Beyond construction, South Korea has emerged as a key partner in developing Turkmenistan’s shipbuilding industry. Since 2023, the Balkan Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Yard has been collaborating with South Korea’s Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology on the design and construction of two 6,100-deadweight-ton dry cargo vessels, with Korean engineers providing training and technology transfer to local specialists throughout the process.
The first vessel, Gadamly, entered service in 2026 as Turkmenistan’s first domestically built dry cargo ship, marking a significant milestone in the country’s maritime industrial development.
A second vessel, Menzil, is expected to follow, underscoring the growing role of South Korean technical expertise in modernising Turkmenistan’s maritime and logistics infrastructure.
