Wallenius Wilhelmsen to enhance US logistics network with new Kalmar equipment

Kalmar has secured a significant order from Wallenius Wilhelmsen, a major Norwegian shipping company, for four heavy electric forklift trucks, two electric reachstackers, and three heavy terminal tractors.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen aims to enhance its US logistics network with this new equipment.

This order, which also includes the deployment of the Kalmar Insight fleet performance management tool, was recorded in the 2023 Q4 order intake of Cargotec, the mother company of Kalmar.

"Our two companies have benefitted from a partnership that stretches back more than three decades. This new agreement to renew our cargo-handling equipment with fully electric and more eco-efficient machines is an important step in supporting our clean fleet initiative in the US. We believe that Kalmar’s heavy equipment offering is the right choice to help us reach our goals," stated Ove Moring, head of Supplier & Contract Management at Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen operates in 28 countries with a workforce of over 9,500 people. The company's land-based logistics network encompasses eight terminals, 11 inland distribution networks, and more than 66 services and processing centres worldwide. At sea, Wallenius Wilhelmsen manages 125 vessels navigating 15 trade routes across six continents.

As part of its commitment to minimising onshore logistics emissions, Wallenius Wilhelmsen has set a strategic goal known as the clean fleet initiative, which focusses on ensuring that all new equipment, whenever feasible, adheres to zero-emission standards.

"We are extremely proud that Wallenius Wilhelmsen has chosen Kalmar equipment as part of its fleet renewal programme in the US. This order is another clear demonstration of the rapidly rising demand for robust fully electric equipment that is capable of moving heavy loads, and represents the first sales of our electric reachstacker and heavy electric forklift to a customer in the USA," stated Svante Alverönn, vice president of Global Service Solutions at Kalmar.
