Valenciaport records second-best container growth in history

The Port Authority of Valencia handled 479,873 TEUs in March 2026, an 11.6% increase compared to the same month in the previous year, making it the second-best March on record for container traffic at Valenciaport.

Total cargo throughput for the month reached 7,016,806 tonnes, a 5.23% increase year-on-year, achieved despite a challenging international trade environment.

For the first quarter of 2026, the three ports of the APV, Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia, collectively handled 18,675,690 tonnes, a decline of 3.31%, while container volumes reached 1,312,842 TEUs, up 1.40%. O

ver the trailing twelve months, throughput stood at 79,422,389 tonnes, down 1.51%, with container traffic of 5,680,755 TEUs, up 2.94%. Vessel calls in the first quarter increased to 1,712, a 2.45% rise.

Trade flow patterns in March showed a notable divergence by geography.

Container traffic with China grew strongly, with year-to-date volumes up 30.56% to 235,903 units. Traffic with the United States declined 20.65% to 73,700 containers.

Growth was also recorded with Brazil, up 10.23%, Morocco up 19.09% and Vietnam up 23.2%. Declines were recorded with Algeria, Turkey, India, the United Arab Emirates and Israel.

Passenger traffic through Valenciaport in March reached 76,474, a 6.14% increase, with scheduled service passengers rising 18.40% to 53,955, while cruise passengers declined 14.9% to 22,519. Year-to-date passenger throughput stands at 207,895, up 9.30%.

On the financial side, first-quarter net turnover reached EUR€39,679,020, a 2.6% increase on the prior year.

Operating profit grew more substantially, rising 27.32% to EUR€10.73 million from EUR€8.43 million in the first quarter of 2025, driven primarily by cost-reduction measures.
