Israeli ports handled 24.3 million tonnes of cargo during the first five months of 2026, according to data from the Ministry of Transport and the Shipping and Ports Authority.

Containerized cargo remained the dominant traffic segment across the country’s port system. The Ashdod port area handled approximately 8.56 million tonnes, while the Haifa port area processed around 3.36 million tonnes during the January-May period.

The South Port (HCT) moved approximately 3.26 million tonnes, while Bayport (SIPG) handled nearly 2.93 million tonnes, highlighting the growing role of Israel’s newer container terminals.

The Port of Haifa handled about 2.03 million tonnes, while Ashdod Port processed approximately 1.81 million tonnes. Additional cargo volumes were recorded at fuel, chemical and bulk terminals across the country.

The figures underline the continued importance of containerized trade in Israel’s maritime sector, with private and concession-operated terminals accounting for a significant share of throughput.

Israel’s total cargo traffic exceeded 56.6 million tonnes in 2025, reflecting the strategic role of the country’s ports in supporting regional trade, supply chains and economic activity.

The January-May 2026 figures indicate that container and general cargo activity remains resilient despite ongoing geopolitical and market uncertainties affecting global shipping.
