Thordon Bearings has opened a third manufacturing facility in Burlington, Canada, to expand production capacity and meet growing demand for its marine bearings, seals and related equipment.
The new facility, located at 3180 Mainway near the company’s existing headquarters, will primarily manufacture TG100 water-lubricated mechanical seals and water quality packages for the marine and hydropower sectors.
The expansion will also provide additional manufacturing space, helping Thordon increase production output, improve operational efficiency and reduce equipment lead times.
New facility supports production and workforce growth
The new plant will accommodate Thordon’s New Product Development team alongside operations for its sister company, Marsh Brothers Aviation.
By transferring selected activities to the new location, Thordon will free up capacity at its existing facility at 3225 Mainway, creating additional space for manufacturing operations and workforce expansion.
The investment follows a period of employment growth at the company. Since the end of 2023, Thordon’s workforce has increased by 32%, with new positions added across management, sales and production.
The company expects further recruitment as it expands its operations.
“Alongside our commitments to innovation and quality, we continue to invest in growth,” said Anna Galoni, Chair and CEO, Thordon Bearings.
“Creating additional production space has allowed Thordon and MBA to optimise layouts for assembly, machining and office areas, improving throughput, productivity and efficiency.”
The expansion is intended to support rising demand across Thordon’s business segments while strengthening its ability to supply equipment within expected delivery schedules.
The company also expects the proximity of the new plant to its existing facilities to improve coordination between production, engineering and product development teams.
Thordon has not disclosed the investment value or the additional annual production capacity associated with the new facility.
