Swissterminal launches Belgium – France rail service

The integrated logistics provider Swissterminal has expanded its Schweizerzug rail product portfolio by adding a new service between the Belgian port of Antwerp and Ottmarsheim in France to offer new transport opportunities to the three-country point of France, Switzerland and Germany.

"With this addition to our rail network, we will bring new opportunities to the border triangle of France, Switzerland and Germany," stated Roman Mayer, Swissterminal CEO.

Launched in January 2022, the rail service has started with three direct round trips per week, allowing the handling of 540 TEU and offering the "fastest overnight connection" between the Belgian port and the Alsace region, according to a statement.

Specifically, handling takes place at Ottmarsheim every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while in Antwerp, the handling days are on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, through the container terminals DP World AG, MPET, PSA.

This offering is anticipated to provide an efficient and economical transportation alternative while alleviating supply chain congestion in the region, according to a statement.

In addition, customers using the service could benefit from the pick-up and delivery times, as well as a range of additional container services from Swissterminal, such as maintenance, repair and reefer services.

Meanwhile, Swissterminal has unveiled plans to improve transport connections to key locations across Europe for Alsace, Southern Germany and Switzerland.

"The introduction of this new rail product is the first in a series of progressive developments planned over the next months and years," stated a company official.
