Suez Canal Chief holds cooperation talks with Swedish and French Ambassadors

Suez Canal Authority Chairman Adm. Ossama Rabiee held separate meetings with the ambassadors of Sweden and France to discuss maritime cooperation, logistics development, and the strategic role of the Suez Canal in global trade.

The meetings took place in Ismailia as the Suez Canal Authority continues efforts to expand navigational and logistics services despite ongoing regional disruptions.

Sweden highlights Suez Canal’s logistics potential

During talks with Swedish Ambassador Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt at the SCA headquarters, Rabiee said the Suez Canal has strengthened vessel transit services through:

  • Bunkering operations
  • Ship maintenance and repair
  • Water ambulance services
  • Ongoing waterway development projects

The Swedish ambassador described the canal as a “strategic pillar” for global supply chains and said its development projects could position it as a global logistics hub.

France discusses navigation and maritime services

Rabiee also met French Ambassador Eric Chevallier and French Defence Attaché Capt. Laurent Seguier during the transit of the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle through the canal.

The discussions focused on:

  • Crew change services
  • Maritime salvage operations
  • Waste collection services
  • Ship repair and maintenance capabilities

Rabiee highlighted the recent completion of the Southern Sector Development Project, which widened parts of the canal and expanded double-lane sections to improve navigational safety.

The French ambassador reaffirmed the canal’s importance to global supply chains and praised cooperation between the Suez Canal Authority and CMA CGM, as well as services provided to French vessels and yachts transiting the canal.
