Overall container traffic, full and empty boxes, at the port of Melbourne was down 6.7% in January compared with the same month last year.
The total container volumes of the major Australian port reached 257,227 TEUs in the first month of 2023.
Port of Melbourne reported that full overseas container imports dropped by 11.1% in January 2023, with furniture, metal manufacturing, household appliances, paperboard, toys, and sporting products all falling short of last year’s quantities.
Moreover, Melbourne’s full overseas exports in the previous month were also down 18.4% from the previous year’s same period, with hay and fodder, pulp & waste paper, and dried milk all decreasing compared with last year’s levels.
