SCA receives Egypt’s first petroleum services vessel

FAKHR 1, petroleum supply and services vessel

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has received FAKHR 1, Egypt’s first integrated petroleum supply and services vessel.

The vessel arrived at Timsah Shipbuilding Company after completing a 33-day voyage from China.

FAKHR 1 was built at Ningde Tai Jinzhou Yuajin Shipyard.

The vessel transited the Suez Canal within the southbound convoy before reaching its berth.

FAKHR 1 measures 64.8 meters in length and 16 meters in beam.

It has a draft of 5 meters and accommodates 60 crew members.

The vessel supports geophysical surveys, marine geotechnical investigations and petroleum exploration activities.

It also supports diving operations.

SCA equipped the vessel with a DP2 dynamic positioning system.

This system allows the vessel to maintain position without dropping anchor.

Admiral Ossama Rabiee, Chairman and Managing Director of the SCA, said the vessel strengthens Egypt’s offshore capabilities.

He said FAKHR 1 reduces dependence on foreign-owned marine assets and saves foreign currency.

The vessel will undergo commissioning after installing diving equipment with support from ABL Group.

The SCA plans to hold a formal flag-raising ceremony later.

FAKHR 1 will start operations in July.

The vessel will work for Petrobel under a contract in Abu Rudeis in the Red Sea.

Rabiee said the Authority continues investing in fleet modernization.

He added that negotiations are underway to build a sister vessel for petroleum exploration work.

The chairman said these investments support the SCA’s strategy to diversify revenue streams and strengthen affiliated companies.

A consortium owns the vessel.

The owners include Timsah Shipbuilding Company, Canal Mooring & Lights Company and Canal Rope Company.

FAKHR 1 becomes the fourth vessel in Timsah Shipbuilding Company’s petroleum services fleet.

The fleet already includes AMAN, AHMED FADEL and BADR.
