Samsung Heavy Industries announced a significant milestone, sealing a US$3.4 billion deal with a ship owner from the Middle East.
This agreement entails the construction of fifteen LNG carriers, each with a capacity of 170,4000 m³ (cubic metres), scheduled for delivery by October 2028.
This contract marks a new pinnacle for Samsung Heavy Industries, surpassing its previous record of US$2.9 billion achieved last July with the signing of a contract for 16 methanol-powered container ships.
Furthermore, the company’s stellar performance this year is evident, with a cumulative contract value of US$3.7 billion secured within just over a month, accounting for almost half of last year’s total of US$8.3 billion. Notably, this encompasses the order backlog of 17 ships, including 15 LNG carriers and 2 VLACs.
According to a statement, the substantial order backlog, particularly in high-value LNG carriers, comprising a total of 90 ships, reinforces Samsung Heavy Industries’ position for sustained and robust performance.
