The Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) has opened a new cargo-handling facility at Bangkok Port to improve efficiency and reduce congestion.
The facility covers 22,000 square meters across Warehouses 8 and 9.
PAT designed the site to streamline barge cargo operations, accelerate customs procedures and lower logistics costs.
The new facility separates barge operations from international feeder vessel traffic.
Previously, both services shared the same handling areas, creating bottlenecks and delays.
PAT said the new arrangement will improve cargo flow and reduce truck turnaround times.
The facility will primarily handle less-than-container-load (LCL) import cargo.
Containers arriving by barge or coastal shipping routes will move directly to the facility for inspection, sorting and distribution.
The location offers direct access to the port’s main container yards.
Workers can unload, process and clear cargo immediately after arrival.
The facility also connects directly to Road No. 2, allowing trucks to enter and exit without passing through congested terminal areas.
PAT said the new layout reduces unnecessary container movements and shortens truck travel distances within the port.
The changes will improve safety and help lower fuel consumption and emissions.
The project supports Thailand’s strategy to promote waterborne freight transport and reduce dependence on road transport.
PAT expects the facility to speed up container handling and reduce overall logistics costs for shipping lines and cargo owners.
The authority plans to continue investing in port infrastructure and digital systems to support growing trade volumes and strengthen Thailand’s position as a regional logistics hub.
