SAFEEN Drydocks has secured vessel construction contracts worth AED1.3 billion (US$354 million), marking the largest awards in the company’s history and strengthening the UAE’s ambitions to become a regional shipbuilding hub.
SAFEEN Drydocks, a joint venture between AD Ports Group and Premier Marine Engineering Services, secured two major projects covering commercial and offshore vessel construction.
The first contract covers the design and construction of four 140-meter multipurpose vessels for AD Ports Group.
The vessels will support cargo and logistics operations and each will accommodate 105 passengers, carry up to 300 containers, including more than 100 reefer plugs, transport high and heavy cargo, and handle up to 1,000 vehicles and 100 trailers.
The second award involves building 18 specialized marine support vessels for Nigeria-based Oilbank Logistics Services Ltd.

The program includes tugboats and pilot boats that will support port operations and offshore logistics activities in Nigeria.
SAFEEN Drydocks said the contracts demonstrate its growing capabilities across complex newbuild projects.
“These contract awards demonstrate SAFEEN Drydocks’ ability to deliver complex vessel construction programmes for both local and international customers,” said Captain Ammar Al Shaiba, CEO – Maritime & Shipping Cluster at AD Ports Group.
He added that expanding local shipbuilding capabilities remains strategically important for strengthening industrial growth and maritime resilience in the UAE.
Oilbank Logistics Executive Director Biodun Otunola said the agreement will strengthen the company’s marine operations and support long-term infrastructure development.
The projects will be delivered through SAFEEN Drydocks’ facilities in the UAE and Spain, including operations at Khalifa Port and the recently acquired Balenciaga Shipyard.
