PSA BDP, a global provider of logistics and supply chain solutions, has officially committed to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), marking a significant step in its efforts to establish ambitious emissions reduction goals.
SBTi offers a well-defined pathway for companies to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in alignment with climate science.
PSA BDP has pledged to develop near-term and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets under SBTi’s Net Zero Standard. Given that over 98% of the company’s emissions stem from freight transportation, this commitment supports PSA BDP’s sustainability goals and helps its customers meet their own emissions reduction objectives.
The initiative will commence with an external audit, adhering to ISO 14064 standards for GHG accounting. This audit, expected to be completed in the coming months, demonstrates PSA BDP’s dedication to transparent and accountable GHG reporting.
Following the audit, PSA BDP will establish Scope 1 and Scope 2 targets using SBTi methodologies. Once approved, the company will set additional Scope 3 targets, aiming to finalize these by the end of 2025. These goals will encompass both short-term objectives for 2030 or 2035 and long-term ambitions to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. This structured strategy reflects PSA BDP’s commitment to sustainable growth, global carbon reduction, and fostering a circular economy.
Central to PSA BDP’s emissions reduction efforts is its Freight Decarbonization Framework, which focuses on minimizing freight-related emissions across sea, land, and air transportation. This initiative is bolstered by its Carbon Dashboard tool, introduced earlier this year, which enhances data collection and enables customers to address freight emissions as part of their own science-based targets.
Additionally, PSA BDP is incorporating lower-carbon freight solutions into its logistics services to accelerate progress toward net zero emissions.
SBTi’s Net Zero Standard remains the only framework designed for corporate net zero target-setting in alignment with climate science. Science-based targets ensure compliance with the latest research, defining the actions necessary to meet the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
“At PSA BDP, we are fully committed to leading the supply chain industry towards a low-carbon future and are working proactively to reduce emissions across key areas. We recognize the urgency of taking action as an organization to further our own sustainability goals as well as enable our customers to achieve their emissions reduction goals,” mentioned Peggy Murphy, VP of Sustainability, PSA BDP.
