The Port of Oakland handled 184,492 TEUs in April 2026, a modest decrease from March’s 198,667 TEUs, with vessel calls declining from 86 to 80 over the same period.
Despite fewer arrivals, cargo throughput demonstrated resilience, with year-on-year volume down just 0.5% compared to April 2025, reflecting a trend toward larger vessel exchanges and increased cargo movement per call.
Imports totalled 91,805 TEUs and exports 92,687 TEUs, continuing a pattern in which exports marginally exceed imports at Oakland.
Full loaded imports reached 78,822 TEUs while full loaded exports came in at 63,910 TEUs, for a combined full container total of 142,792 TEUs. Year-to-date volume through April stood at 742,351 TEUs, down 5.7% compared to the same period in 2025.
Bryan Brandes, Maritime Director at the Port of Oakland, described April’s result as reflecting the underlying stability of Oakland’s cargo base amid ongoing adjustments in carrier scheduling and vessel deployment across transpacific trade markets.
He highlighted the port’s diverse cargo mix and its role as a critical gateway for agricultural exports and Northern California commerce as the structural strengths sustaining activity through a period of broader market volatility.
