Port of Montreal among North America’s greenest ports

For the 17th consecutive year, the Port of Montreal has been recognized for its sustainable development practices and environmental performance by Green Marine, the leading voluntary environmental certification programme in the marine shipping industry.

The results were announced at the annual GreenTech conference held in Halifax, Canada from 5 to 7 June.

Among the 59 participating port authorities, the Montreal Port Authority (MPA) achieved top-tier rankings, earning a perfect score of 5 out of 5 in several categories: Environmental Leadership, Waste Management, Dry Bulk Handling and Storage, Spill Prevention and Stormwater Management, and Community Relations.

Additionally, the MPA received a score of 4 out of 5 in the category of Air Emissions GHG & Air Pollutants.

“The success of Green Marine’s 2023 certification would not have been possible without the unwavering commitment and hard work of our teams rallying to maintain and surpass our high standards of environmental excellence every year. Thank you to everyone who makes it possible for the Port of Montreal to achieve results that match its ambitions and to keep striving to continuously improve its track record in sustainable development,” commented Julie Gascon, president and CEO of the Montreal Port Authority.
