This week, the vessel DHB Diligent (Dover Harbour Board) officially began operations following a naming ceremony. Emma Ward, Port of Dover Chief Operations Officer, had the honour of christening the vessel.
This new, state-of-the-art pilot boat reflects the UK Port’s commitment to modern, sustainable assets for its skilled team.
According to the statement, capable of guiding everything from large cruise and cargo ships to small leisure boats through the world’s busiest shipping lane, DHB Diligent represents a significant investment in safety and efficiency.
Arriving in July 2024 after three years of development, trials, and consultations with industry experts, the DHB Diligent was created in partnership with Holyhead Marine. It features cutting-edge technology and runs on HVO diesel, enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing emissions.
“Diligent is a brilliant addition to our important fleet of pilot vessels and we are extremely proud to celebrate today as she officially starts operation. Brand new and with the latest features, she will provide exceptional assistance to our pilots, who do a great job escorting vessels into berth, sometimes during challenging weather conditions. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Holyhead Marine for our fantastic new vessel, and to the Port’s marine and project teams, particularly Mick Langley our veteran coxswain, whose 42 years of service have been invaluable,” stated Steven Manser, Harbour Master at the Port of Dover.
