Port Klang’s ambitions to become a TOP10 port

PUTRAJAYA: The Transport Ministry is working to enhance Port Klang’s operations efficiency to make it one of the top 10 best ports in the world, its minister Anthony Loke said today.

Port Klang is currently ranked the world’s 12th best container port.

“We are sure that the target can be achieved if the efficiency aspect is (focussed upon), especially (in the area of) acceptance and release of cargo.

“Port Klang is located strategically in the middle of the Straits of Melaka. However, foreign shipping companies still choose Singapore, because it has an efficient cargo management system.

“In Malaysia, I was made to understand that there are 28 cargo operations agencies. Therefore, (to compete with Singapore) we will introduce a single agency to manage the entire cargo operations of the Port.

“This will improve efficiency,” he said at a press conference after attending the first National Shipping and Port Council (NSPC) gathering at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here, today.
