The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command, has intercepted some items suspected to be tramadol capsules concealed in adult diapers in a Maersk container.
The spokesman of the command, Hussain Abdulahi, said the items have a duty paid value of approximately US$3.6 million and were seized in a box marked MRKU 9090415, according to the maritime security firm, Dryad Global.
The container was handed over to the Nigerian authorities on 15 November by the Republic of Benin.
“On 20 December, Seme Customs Service invited other security agencies and stakeholders to witness the examination of the container. The items discovered during 100% examination are 200 packages of adult diapers, 100 cartoons of Gabadol 120mg suspected to be tramadol equivalent to 360kg,” stated the customs area controller, Bello Jibo.
He went on to add, “The diapers were smartly arranged at the front of the container while the drugs were was the back. I directed that samples be taken out officially and handed over to National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to ascertain and confirm the drugs.”
An investigation has commenced while, at the time of writing, no suspected has been arrested in connection with the seizure, according to Dryad Global’s report.
