At the end of August, a new automated container loader arrived by sea from Latvia to Stockholm Norvik Port.
This new addition is expected to boost the Swedish port’s capacity and enhance its services to better support the Swedish export industry’s need for efficient cargo containerization.
The advanced container loader introduces a novel cargo stuffing method, optimizing efficiency for industries such as forestry and steel.
“Unlike all other ports in Sweden, Ports of Stockholm has a surplus of empty containers, and there is a high demand for containers from the Swedish export industry. As one of the largest import ports, we can make a significant difference. With a new container loader, we can efficiently and sustainably handle goods while contributing to more cost-effective freight management,” stated Johan Wallén, Chief Commercial Officer of Ports of Stockholm.
The terminal at Stockholm Norvik Port is operated by Hutchison Ports, one of the world’s largest container operators with 54 ports across 25 countries. This partnership integrates Stockholm deeply into the global freight network.

The newly arrived container loader is among the most advanced in Sweden, allowing Ports of Stockholm’s stevedoring team to load 30 tons of cargo into a 40-foot container in just five minutes. Besides improving loading speed, the automated system enhances safety by performing operations in a stable, controlled manner, thus reducing the risk of accidents.
