West Med Container Terminal (WMCT) is preparing to commence commercial operations at Morocco’s Port of Nador West Med following a series of operational trials, according to DynaLiners.
WMCT is a joint venture between Moroccan port operator Marsa Maroc, which holds 50% plus one share, and MSC’s terminal subsidiary Terminal Investment Limited, which owns 50% minus one share.
The terminal has an annual handling capacity of 1.2 million TEUs. Its infrastructure comprises two berths along a 750-metre quay equipped with ship-to-shore gantry cranes.
MSC’s Mediterranean–US East Coast EMUSA service is expected to become the terminal’s first regular customer. Vessels operating on the service will call at Nador West Med before proceeding to New York.
