The logistics company Performance Team, which was acquired by Maersk in April 2020, will replace 16 diesel trucks with 16 new Volvo battery-electric trucks, as a part of Maersk’s Environment Social Governance (ESG) strategy to decarbonise logistics.
Except for supporting decarbonisation by producing zero tailpipe emissions, the Volvo VNR Electric Class 8 trucks will simplify maintenance and improve working conditions for drivers, by eliminating exposure to diesel fuel and exhaust, as well as offering quieter cab free of engine-related vibrations and responsiveness, according to a statement.
Jason Walker, Executive Vice President of Operations at Performance Team said there is a 30% growth rate in Warehousing and Distribution business and customers are looking for more truck power to meet high volume delivery demands.
Furthermore, he added, “this new order of Volvo VNR Electric trucks will give us firsthand experience on their performance carrying regional loads and environmental benefits.”
The president of Volvo Trucks North America, Peter Voorhoeve stated, “Deploying VNR Electric trucks in the very near future on logistics routes in California is a true testament to moving electromobility and sustainable transport solutions forward in the trucking industry.”
The order of the new vehicles will be completed in the fourth quarter of the year and constitutes the largest order of VNR Electric models to date of Volvo electric trucks.
The Californian Performance Team – A Maersk Company, which is participating in a State of California South Coast Air Quality Management District grant to reduce emissions in the transportation sector, operates a North America warehousing and distribution network of 45 locations and a fleet of 215 trucks.
