Maersk restructures Europe-West Africa service network

Marie Maersk vessel

Maersk will adjust its Europe-West Africa service network from October 2026 to improve connectivity and schedule reliability.

The revised network introduces additional coverage through Port Said, Lomé and Pointe-Noire. It also reorganises connections through major hubs in West and Central Africa.

The new rotations are:

Service Rotation
WAF 2 Algeciras – Tangier – Dakar
WAF 3 Port Said – Algeciras – Tangier – Lomé – Abidjan – Tema – Apapa
WAF 6 Port Said – Tangier – Algeciras – Tema – Apapa – Pointe-Noire
WAF 7 Tangier – Conakry
WAF 9B/C Algeciras – Leixões – Lisbon – Praia – Mindelo
WAF 10 Tangier – Nouakchott – Nouadhibou – Nouakchott
WAF 12 Tangier – Banjul

The Tema and Apapa calls on WAF 3 will handle exports from West Africa only.

In addition, Maersk will serve Monrovia through the WAF 5X and Freetown through the WAF 7X directly from Tangier until further notice.

Revised West African connections

Maersk has also reorganised its connecting services for European cargo.

Abidjan WAF 8 San Pedro
Abidjan WAF 5 Onne, Takoradi
Lomé MW 2 Cotonou
Pointe-Noire WAF 13 Luanda, Walvis Bay
Pointe-Noire 23F Malabo, Bata, Libreville
Pointe-Noire 23D Matadi

The revised structure concentrates onward connections through Abidjan, Lomé, Pointe-Noire and Tema. This will affect the transshipment routing used for cargo moving from Europe to several West and Central African destinations.
