Maersk and SLPA discuss terminal efficiency at Port of Colombo

Maersk delegates met with senior officials from Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) at the Port of Colombo to discuss operational performance and future cooperation related to Maersk vessel and terminal activities.

The discussions focused on vessel turnaround times, berth planning, schedule reliability, transshipment coordination, and Inter-terminal Trucking (ITT) operations. Both sides also reviewed ways to improve overall port execution efficiency.

The Maersk delegation included Karan Tariyal, Biju Ravi, and Thilina Perera.

SLPA was represented by Parakrama Dissanayake, Herath M. P. Jayawardhana, Ganaka Hemachandra, and Prabath J. Malavige, together with other senior officials.

Both parties highlighted the strategic importance of the Port of Colombo within Maersk’s regional network connecting the Indian Subcontinent, Middle East, and Africa.

They also stressed the need for stronger terminal coordination, faster operational response, and improved handling efficiency to support rising cargo volumes and maintain Colombo’s position as a key regional transshipment hub.

Maersk operates one of the world’s largest integrated shipping and logistics networks, with a global container fleet capacity exceeding four million TEUs and extensive connectivity across major East-West and intra-Asia trade routes.
