LR grants AiP to Wison New Energies for harsh environment FPSO design

Lloyd’s Register has granted Approval in Principle (AiP) to Wison New Energies for a new harsh environment FPSO design featuring an internal turret mooring system.

The AiP was presented during the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston following an independent concept-stage review by Lloyd’s Register.

Internal turret FPSOs are commonly deployed in harsh offshore environments but remain among the industry’s most technically complex floating production systems due to the integration of hull, mooring, risers and topside structures.

The approval marks an early technical milestone for Wison’s standardised floating production concept designed for challenging offshore conditions.

According to Lloyd’s Register, the independent review helps reduce technical uncertainty during the early project phase and supports more confident decision-making by project stakeholders.

Ian Crehan, Global Head of Energies Solutions at Lloyd’s Register, said:

“Floating production systems are becoming more complex, and the cost of getting early decisions wrong is rising. Independent assurance at concept stage helps reduce uncertainty and allows projects to move forward with greater technical confidence.”

Wison New Energies said the approval supports its strategy to accelerate the deployment of FPSO solutions in demanding offshore regions.

Loy Wee Meng, Senior Product Manager at Wison New Energies’ FPSO Product Center, said the company now has the capability to address around 90% of global FPSO demand through its portfolio of standard, gas and harsh environment FPSO designs.
