Liebherr secures first US West Coast STS crane contract

Liebherr Container Cranes announced its first-ever contract to deliver ship-to-shore (STS) container cranes to the West Coast of the United States.

TraPac Oakland, a container terminal operator in California, has awarded Liebherr a contract for two cutting-edge STS cranes.

Although Liebherr has previously supplied STS cranes to ports along the US East Coast, this marks the company’s debut on the West Coast.

The cranes feature an impressive outreach of 66 meters (216 feet), a lift height of 53 meters (173.83 feet), a span of 30.48 meters (100 feet) and a lifting capacity of 66 long tonnes in twin-lift mode.

Speaking about the order, Declan O’Sullivan, General Manager – Sales at Liebherr Container Cranes, commented, “We are delighted to partner with TraPac Oakland and bring Liebherr’s innovative crane technology to the U.S. West Coast. This milestone reflects our continued commitment to providing world-class container handling solutions tailored to the needs of terminal operators globally. We also thank our colleagues at Liebherr USA for their continued contributions to customers across the US, from coast to coast.”

Additionally, the cranes incorporate advanced features, including semi-automation systems and state-of-the-art anti-collision technology, ensuring enhanced operational safety, visibility, and precision. Supported by Liebherr’s U.S.-based customer service team, these cranes are poised to become integral to the economic growth of the West Coast for years to come.
