Cargotec-owned manufacturer Kalmar has entered into a contract with Med Europe Terminal in Marseille, France for the provision of six Kalmar hybrid straddle carriers.
This significant order was recorded in Cargotec's order intake for the first quarter of 2024, while the delivery of the machines is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024.
"We are constantly striving to improve our environmental performance, and Kalmar’s proven hybrid solution will help us take big steps forward in this area. We are looking forward to welcoming the new hybrid straddle carriers to our fleet at the end of the year and to continuing our long-standing partnership with Kalmar," stated Sylvain Pelligrini, Technical, Procurement, IT & Claims director, Med Europe Terminal.
Situated in the Port of Marseille on the southern coast of France, the terminal currently utilizes a fleet of Kalmar diesel-electric straddle carriers. The addition of these new hybrid straddle carriers is part of an initiative to modernize the terminal's fleet, with a focus on enhancing its environmental sustainability.
"We are delighted to support Med Europe Terminal as they move towards more eco-efficient operations. Our proven hybrid solution, which can cut fuel consumption by up to 40% compared to equivalent diesel-powered machines, continues to be an extremely popular choice among leading terminal operators around the world," said Herve Helluin, service operations manager, Kalmar.
