Intra-Italy railway line resumes operations amid Yilport’s ongoing investments in Taranto terminal

The operator Yilport San Cataldo Container Terminal (SCCT) SpA has recently handled the first train commodities since the railway line's reactivation at Taranto's Molo Polisettoriale in southeastern Italy.

The intermodal goods train ran on the Bari - Taranto route and was operated with the railway operator GTS and the support of the railway company Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal.

Therefore, trade connecting Taranto to the Adriatic line is resumed, with a bundle of five loading/unloading lines reaching Northern Europe quickly by crossing the Italian peninsula.

The Molo Polisettoriale has two shunting locomotives, gantry cranes, and licensed railway shunting operators.

Meanwhile, Yilport has announced new investments to build a Mediterranean hub, following the massive investments already applied in the 24 months of management of the Polisettoriale Pier in Taranto, from February 2020 to date.

The already implemented investments include seven new port turntables and two new reach stackers arriving in March.

The seven fifth-wheel tractors provided to SCCT are examples of the most recent vehicle generation: Euro 5 engines with greatly decreased fuel consumption and hence emissions, considerable safety enhancements, ergonomic workstations, and straightforward controls.

Furthermore, the two reach stackers, which are large stacking trucks used to handle and store containers, will allow SCCT to save fuel usage and emissions, including noise, by up to 40%.
