ICTSI’s Manila International Container Terminal receives first LNG-powered boxship

The flagship terminal of International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) received the inaugural call of CMA CGM Passion, the first liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered container vessel to dock at the terminal.

The 7,327 TEU boxship, which docked at the terminal on 26 September, has been deployed on CNC’s KCS service rotation, offering direct sailings between South China and the Philippines. This weekly service, operated by CMA CGM’s intra-Asia specialist CNC, connects ports in China, Indonesia, and the Philippines, including Xingang, Dalian, Lianyungang, Qingdao, Singapore, Jakarta, Surabaya, and Manila.

“This landmark call reinforces our efforts to reduce the environmental impact of MICT’s operations, which include investing in hybrid rubber-tired gantries that require less fuel and generate cleaner emissions. We hope to handle more green ships as the industry moves towards decarbonization,” commented Christian Lozano, MICT chief operating officer.

CMA CGM Passion is also the largest container vessel in terms of TEU capacity handled by MICT to date.
