IAPH appoints new director of business development

The International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) has announced the appointment of Nick Blackmore as the association’s new director of business development.

Blackmore’s role will focus on the strategic and commercial development and marketing of IAPH’s portfolio of products and services, including the Environmental Ship Index (ESI), the World Ports Conference and initiatives relating to the World Ports Sustainability Program (WPSP).

Previously, Nick Blackmore has worked on a consulting basis for the IAPH. Last year, he managed the organisation’s membership survey and consultation, interviewing senior leaders at 18 member ports and port associations. He also created the recently published Environmental Ship Index (ESI) whitepaper and was a speaker and panelist promoting ESI at shipping events.

Blackmore commented, “In 2008 I was appointed editor of Safety at Sea magazine, and Ports & Harbors was one of the ‘sister titles’ in the publisher’s portfolio. So I’ve been following IAPH’s work closely for more than 15 years now. I was also involved in the content development and commercial organisation of the postponed IAPH 2020 World Ports Conference, which was successfully delivered as a digital event in 2021. IAPH offers a truly international platform, serving a sector that relies on connection and cooperation worldwide. My role will be to ensure that the impressive array of publications and tools produced by IAPH are both better known to our members and more easily accessible. I will also be working alongside Victor Shieh to ensure there is greater awareness by members and other stakeholders of the scale of the association’s work at the IMO and the tools we are producing for ports with other partners such as the International Chamber of Shipping, World Bank, UNCTAD and the World Customs Organization.”
