Hanseatic Global Terminals completes stake acquisition in Brazilian Container Terminal

Hanseatic Global Terminals and the Imetame Group have completed the establishment of the Hanseatic Global Terminals Aracruz joint venture.

Hanseatic Global Terminals and the Imetame Group have completed the establishment of the Hanseatic Global Terminals Aracruz joint venture, formalising their partnership to develop and operate a new greenfield container terminal in Aracruz, Espírito Santo, Brazil.

The transaction follows a partnership agreement signed in December 2025, with operational launch targeted for mid-2028.

The terminal is strategically located on Brazil’s east coast and designed to accommodate the latest generation of large container vessels, serving as both a transshipment hub and a gateway for Brazilian foreign trade.

The facility will feature a draft of 17 metres, 750 metres of quay length and state-of-the-art container handling equipment, with an annual capacity of approximately 1.2 million TEU.

Dheeraj Bhatia, CEO of Hanseatic Global Terminals, described Latin America as a key strategic market for both HGT and Hapag-Lloyd, framing the Aracruz development as a contribution to strengthening regional connectivity and providing more efficient access to global markets.

Etore Selvatici Cavallieri, Chairman of the Imetame Group, expressed pride in the partnership and its potential to deliver operational excellence and reinforce Brazil’s role in international trade.

The completion of the transaction reinforces Hanseatic Global Terminals’ commitment to Latin America as part of its broader ambition to expand its global portfolio to more than 30 terminals by 2030.

Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
