The Georgia Ports Authority’s Trucker mobile app has grown rapidly since its October 2025 launch, with enrolled users increasing from fewer than 900 to more than 4,000, reflecting strong adoption within the trucking community serving the Port of Savannah.
The app provides on-terminal container locations and delivers push notifications when digital gate transaction tickets are issued, reducing reliance on paper documentation at terminal gates.
A navigation feature allows drivers to view their own position on the terminal relative to pinned container locations and identifies the nearest gate to a container, minimising unnecessary driving within the port.
The app also sends real-time alerts covering gate hour changes and weather updates, and supports biometric login through facial recognition or fingerprint authentication.
GPA President and CEO Griff Lynch described truckers as front-line customers and emphasised that faster turn times benefit the entire port operation’s productivity.
Savannah’s terminals handle more than 14,000 truck gate moves on an average weekday, with single transaction turn times averaging 32 minutes and dual moves averaging 50 minutes.
Lynch noted that these turn times enable many drivers serving local warehouses to complete six to eight trips per day while maintaining predictable schedules.
Complementing the app, GPA is deploying facial recognition technology at Garden City Terminal gates.
Following a successful trial, facial recognition is now operational at all inbound lanes at Gate 3, representing the first phase of a gradual rollout across all terminal gates.
Drivers enrolled in the system no longer need to present their TWIC cards at equipped lanes, though they are still required to keep the cards in their immediate possession while on terminal.
