GEODIS bets on new warehouse in Spain to develop e-commerce network

New investment in storage space was made by GEODIS, a company that specialises in transport and logistics worldwide and continues its development in the service of dynamic retail e-commerce channels.

This new 55,000m² warehouse will be located in Torija in the province of Guadalajara in Spain.

In fact, this move is the first investment in Spain by the French company, driven by the national growth rate of e-commerce sales, which last year was 17% bringing the total market value to US$27 billion.

Just one hour from the center of Madrid, the capital of Spain, on the main motorway to the industrial city of Zaragoza, the 110,000m2 space has a storage capacity of approximately 50,000 pallets and 55 loading spaces, creating immediately 150 jobs.

“Undoubtedly the logistics challenges of servicing a fast-growing and at times unpredictable sector such as e-commerce requires flexibility in designing and implementing traffic flows as well as skilled and motivated manpower,” said David Pele, operations manager in Spain for the contract logistics line of business at GEODIS.

Citing additional reasons that contributed to the specific establishment, Pele added, “These considerations were paramount in our choice of location in a region where logistics skill-sets are well established within the local workforce. Fast efficient transport links to Spanish retail consumers and international road, rail and air links were also factors.”
