Gebrüder Weiss has completed the transport of a new Doppelmayr cable car system to Penang Hill in Malaysia.
The logistics provider moved more than 60 containers from Doppelmayr’s production site in Wolfurt, Austria, to Penang using road, rail and sea transport.
The cargo first travelled by truck to a nearby freight terminal before moving by rail to Hamburg. From there, it continued by sea to Malaysia. Gebrüder Weiss handled customs clearance and final delivery to Penang Hill through its local team.
“Managing a multimodal project of this scale requires precise coordination,” said Michael Kramer, Key Account Manager Air & Sea at Gebrüder Weiss. “Having our own locations at both ends of the supply chain was a major advantage.”
The shipments arrived in several consignments under a fixed delivery schedule. Each shipment reached the Port of Penang after about 38 days at sea.
“As a global market leader in ropeway engineering, we depend on reliable partners,” said Egon Vögel, Head of Shipping at Doppelmayr. “With Gebrüder Weiss, we have a logistics provider that manages complex transportation projects efficiently and on schedule.”
The new eight-passenger gondola lift will improve access to Penang Hill, one of Malaysia’s most popular tourist destinations. The system will connect the outskirts of George Town with the summit, located about 720 metres above sea level in the UNESCO-recognized Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve.
